Design your own Playground

Launched today a new website from DCFS for children:

“Build your own playspace – and give us your views on having fun and staying safe as you play! If you’re aged 8-13 we want to hear from you. Answer questions to earn credits and then choose what you want to put in your play space.”

Writing instructions

When I was in the classroom I would try to find time for a bit of origami – because I enjoy it and because it is a skill which requires the children to listen carefully to instructions.

These days I suppose that I would feel obliged to link it to the NC (though it didn’t stop me in the past!!). Imagine asking half the class to watch the video then write instructions to make the bird, then asking the other half to try to follow the instructions ….

….. we’ve managed to launch Podium! During a twilight session, amongst lots of discussion and excitement, our project group created their own Podcasts.

It will be interesting to see what the project schools do with the software! I’m pleased that the teachers attending the course shared my excitement – I just wish I could answer the question “Why is this better than just using a tape recorder?”
